When to Fly Over Cappadocia: A Balloon Season Guide

When to Fly Over Cappadocia: A Balloon Season Guide

Every morning when the weather allows, dozens of balloons rise over the valleys of Cappadocia at sunrise. Timing your trip well makes all the difference.

The best months

Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to November) offer calm winds, clear skies and comfortable temperatures. Summer flights are also popular, with very early sunrises. Winter brings magical snowy landscapes, but flights are more often cancelled because of weather.

How flights work

  • Pick-up from your hotel before dawn
  • Light breakfast and inflation of the balloons at the launch site
  • Around one hour in the air over the valleys
  • A traditional celebration after landing

Plan a spare morning

Flights are authorised daily according to wind conditions, so a cancellation is always possible. We recommend staying at least two nights, ideally three, so there is a second chance to fly.

Insider tipNot flying? Watching the balloons from a viewpoint or a cave hotel terrace at sunrise is just as memorable.

Beyond the balloons

Explore the rock-cut churches of the Göreme Open-Air Museum, walk the Rose and Red valleys, descend into an underground city and visit pottery workshops in Avanos.

We arrange flights, cave hotels and private guides in Cappadocia.
