Tbilisi and Batumi: Two Faces of Georgia

Tbilisi and Batumi: Two Faces of Georgia

Georgia packs an extraordinary variety into a small country. Its two most popular cities could hardly be more different, and together they make a perfect introduction.

Tbilisi

Explore the old town with its carved wooden balconies, the domed sulphur baths of Abanotubani and the Narikala Fortress above the Mtkvari River. Modern landmarks such as the Bridge of Peace sit side by side with ancient churches.

Batumi

On the Black Sea coast, Batumi combines a long seaside boulevard, botanical gardens and lively evenings. The Ali and Nino statue and the old town squares are favourite places to stroll.

Wine and the table

Georgia has one of the oldest winemaking traditions in the world, using clay vessels called qvevri. Add khachapuri, khinkali and the warm hospitality of the supra feast, and you understand why travellers return.

Good to knowBatumi is close to the Turkish border at Sarp, which makes it easy to combine with a Black Sea itinerary in Türkiye.
